Special machines from the foundry industry conquer new markets

For more than seventy years, IFE Aufbereitungstechnik GmbH has been manufacturing machines for processing bulk materials. By relying on this wealth of experience gathered over decades and pairing it with continuing innovation, we find new approaches for making tried-and-tested machinery solutions available to other industries as well and putting them to use successfully.

Two application cases from the sector of aluminum processing are discussed below:

Machine type 1: Vibrating machine with electronically adjustable vibration angle

Processing task: Loosening and conveying aluminum profiles

Vibrating machines with an electronically adjustable vibration angle have been tailored specially to the demands of the foundry industry. The combination of a shake-out grid and a feeder enables the machine to automatically switch between "material separation" and "material transport".

In an aluminum recycling plant IFE has demonstrated recently that this technology is also ideally suited for processing scrap briquettes. The vertical movement of the vibrating machine makes it possible to loosen the scrap metal, which can be carried off immediately after changing the vibration angle.

Machine type 2: Vibrating machine with mass compensation

Processing task: Drying and conveying moist aluminum scrap

Mass compensated machines have become a mainstay in the foundry industry. They are able to cover distances of over 30 meters and simultaneously convey and cool components at temperatures of several hundred degrees Celsius. Essentially, they consist of a vibrating feeder trough driven by a crank slider drive. The foundation is protected by the mass compensation.

This conveyor type is now also used in an aluminum scrap recycling plant. Conveyor belts feed the moist material to the vibrating machine. Within a stationary cover pre-heated air (approx. 140°C) is then added to the material. These thermal conditions present a problem to other conveying technologies, but not to vibrating machines with mass compensation. Moreover, the conveyor and pause cycles can be fully automated using electronic controls in order to efficiently dry the material at minimized machine length.
