Interesting facts about ferrous and non-ferrous metal separation:
The non-ferrous metal scrap (aluminum, copper, brass and other non-ferrous metals) present in the residual waste represents a very high potential for reutilization, but on the other hand it interferes with the preparation process and can cause high wear on the various machines.
In order to sort the non-ferrous metal scrap, eddy current separators are used in MBA systems. In the separation unit, a magnetic field induces an electrical eddy current in the non-metallic particles, which increases proportionally with the conductivity of the material. As a result, forces act on the metal particles that are in the magnetic field, and this spins the particles in the conveyor belt direction. Non-conductors fall from the belt, since the force does not act on them, while ferromagnetic materials adhere to the belt (source: waste management Styria - abfallwirtschaft.steiermark).
