The significant role of screening and magnetic technology

The significant influence of screening and magnetic technology on the desired result of a processing line is well known. In the world‘s largest plant for processing C&D waste, owned by BINGO Industries in Australia, machines from IFE were able to prove this once again. And this is done at the enormous throughput rate of up to 300 t of mixed construction waste per hour!

Almost no chance for tramp iron at bingo industries

Ferrous metals frequently occur in mixed construction waste and are the easiest group of metals to separate. For coarse iron separation, IFE magnet separators are perfectly suited. Two imposing belt drum separators ensure the removal of large ferrous metals before the downstream shredders. Two IFE overband separators are arranged after them. They separate further iron particles, also with the aim of protecting downstream equipment from larger iron parts.

Optimally sorted fractions

This magnetic pre-sorting is followed by one of the most important mechanical processing methods: screen classification. Two IFE waste screens installed after the overband separators ensure efficient fines removal at a cut of 60 mm. These special recycling screens are equipped with wear-resistant screen panels. Additionally installed finger bars provide a substantial material loosening and prevent the covering of the open screen surfaces by large-area materials (such as foils). A virtually blockage-free screening is thus guaranteed.

Where conventional screening machines such as linear or circular vibrating screens reach their limits, the IFE TRISOMAT flip-flop screen comes into play. This step allows further separation of the fine fraction into four grain ranges and the removal of very small particles under 5 mm.

Seperation of smallest ferrous and non-ferrous metals

The fractions generated by the IFE flip-flop screens then pass windshifters to eject the light material (mainly timber). The heavy fraction (=stones, metals) is further conveyed to four IFE Fe-NF separation stations. Iron, aluminum and copper are thus recovered as purely as possible and make a significant contribution to the output of the plant.

An IFE Fe-NF separation station consists of an overband separator followed by a vibrating feeder and an eddy current separator.


First-class IFE solutions for presorting, metal separation, and screen classification thus form the basis for all further processes (e.g. non-ferrous metal separation, air classification, optical sorting) in the plant. And above all: valuable materials are saved from landfill and can be processed into new products.
